Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Wedding Planner

Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Hire a Wedding Planner

March 13th, 2017 After working Canada’s Bridal Show the weekend of January 8th, 2016, and speaking with countless couples, we started thinking why wedding planners are needed in today’s wedding. Whether for full wedding planning, or month-of coordination, every wedding needs a wedding planner, just like every restaurant needs a head chef, because you need someone to be making sure every little detail is completed perfectly and without hesitation. So, with that in mind, here are our top 10 reasons why you should hire a wedding planner! You deserve everything to be perfect on your big day! A great wedding planner will minimize the stress and maximize the fun. You’re not very good at sticking to a budget. Your wedding planning experience should be enjoyable, not stressful. Great wedding planners ensures dreams are made reality. You don’t want to spend hours finding suppliers and trying to figure out who is trustworthy. Wedding planners have worked with so many different vendors, and know which vendors will give you the wedding you want and deserve. You don’t want wedding planning to take over your life, especially since the average wedding requires 250 hours to plan with a guest count of 100. You have a great venue coordinator but they will only handle what you’ve rented through the venue. A wedding planner cares about every detail involved in your wedding, including the venue. You need help making your vision a reality. A wedding planner will find out exactly what type of wedding you want, and will make it come to life. You’re struggling to meet the demands of your friends and family. Wedding planners will handle the crisis and act as the “go-to” person. You’re planning a wedding somewhere other than where you live. You love the planning, but aren’t great at the little details, like creating a schedule. A wedding planner will orchestrate your wedding from the rehearsal through to the end of the reception. Contact the wedding planners at Your Perfect Day by Jess for an initial free consultation to find out more on how we can make your wedding day...

Top 5 Do’s & Don’t’s Above Choosing Your Reception Venue

Top 5 Do’s & Don’t’s Above Choosing Your Reception Venue

March 6th, 2017 This past weekend, we got to visit a few venues in the GTA to help one of our beautiful couples decide on where they want their wedding reception to be held. While asking all the typical questions, plus a few questions of my own (years of experience), we were able to find the venue that was perfect for this amazing couple! Based on this day filled with meetings and questions, we wrote today’s blog! Here are our Top 5 Do’s and Don’t’s about Choosing Your Reception Venues. Do… Don’t… Look at the bare bones of the room. Most rooms can be transformed into the venue of your dreams, but some décor elements do come with a large cost. Rule out the venue based on photos along. Go inside, meet with the sales coordinator, discuss your options, and see in person if this is the venue for you! Make sure you know all the ins and outs of the contract, like deposit information, extra fees, so you know what you’re getting yourself into. Forget about what’s important to you! If your venue doesn’t include an open bar option, for example, or it’s out of your price range, move on! Check out all reviews and ask around! You want a venue that has the great food, amazing employees, a perfect atmosphere all around! Wait until the last minute. We’ve said this before, multiple times! If you’ve found the vendor you love, you book them on the spot! This is more so with a venue because they book up quickly. Ask about preferred vendors! You don’t have to hire them for your wedding, but it doesn’t hurt to ask what they can offer that the next vendor can’t. Assume what the venue will give you. If you want an aerial fabric artist to perform at your wedding, then ask if the venue has the ability to do so. Make sure your venue is large enough for your guests. You don’t want a tight room, or a small dance floor. It will just make things uncomfortable, hot, and annoying. Give in to something you don’t want. It’s your day! If you don’t want soup, for example, don’t get it just because it’s offered in the “package.” There you go YPDers!...

Pros & Cons: How to Decide what Season to Get Married In!

Pros & Cons: How to Decide what Season to Get Married In!

February 20th, 2017 Well, it’s happened! You’re engaged! You’ve told all your friends and family, you’ve shown off that rock on your finger, and now it’s time to decide when you want to get married! There may only be four seasons to choose from, but there are so many different things to consider, like weather, prices, what’s in season. So, for today, we thought we would break down the pros and cons to help you decide what season to get married in! Spring Pros Cons Spring flowers! It’s just naturally beautiful and romantic. Canadian weather changes daily, so you can have weather that goes from sunny and gorgeous to cold and snowy. If you do get a cloudy day, your photos will turn out unbelievable! If you have any allergies, this is the season you’ll be affected most. If you book your venue early enough, you’ll be paying less than if you got married in the summer or fall. You have to work around Easter, spring break, and graduations. If you want a soft and light colour palette, this is the season to get married in.   Summer Pros Cons Your menu has so much variety with so much in season! There is nothing worse than seeing a bride and groom sweating because of the heat. Daylight until 9 o’clock some nights, allowing you to have great flexibility in how to choose to run your day. Heat is distracting so your guests might be more concerned about their temperature than you getting married. Great weather allows for creativity, like a campfire at an outdoor wedding, cigars under the stars, or streamed lights throughout the trees. Attendance might not be a full swing since a lot of people vacation in the summer. Your flowers will be in perfect bloom and will allow every colour scheme to be available. Summer weddings require a lot of lead time, since it’s the busiest time of the year.   Most couples want to get married in the summer, making it the most expensive season to marry in. Fall Pros Cons As the seasons change, the colours in the trees are beyond mesmerizing. Changing weather wreaks havoc on your skin Perfect for that deeper, darker colour scheme, like oranges, reds, and deep purples. Booking venues can be difficult since it’s a sought-after season. If saving some money is important, find a venue that has a lot of foliage so you can save money on décor.   Winter Pros Cons Fresh snow on the ground just seems to make everything more beautiful! You may have to compete with the holidays as a lot of people vacation in the winter. The décor: fireplaces, candles, twinkle lights… need I say more? The weather. You could end up with a blizzard that simply doesn’t allow you or your guests to leave the premises. You’ll save more money by getting married in the “off season.” Not a lot of daylight to utilize. Fewer winter weddings means you have a better chance at getting the vendors you want. It’s COLD! Remember, YPDers, you can contact us today to help you plan your perfect wedding in any...

Top 10 Songs to Get the Party Started

Top 10 Songs to Get the Party Started

February 20th, 2017 We at YPD have LOVED writing our weekly blogs for all of our readers, and, to be honest, most of the time we’re listening to music while we’re writing these blogs. We love music almost as much as we love weddings, so it made absolute and complete sense to write a couple of blogs about music! The only problem is that we’re wedding planners, not DJs, so we teamed up with DJ Christian from Magic Moments Entertainment to write these blogs. Our first blog is all about the Top 10 Songs to get the Party Started! Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars – “Uptown Funk” Michael Jackson – “Billie Jean” Bon Jovi – “Living on a Prayer” AC/DC – “Shook me All Night Long” Stevie B – “Spring Love” Black Eyed Peas – “I got a Feeling” Journey – “Don’t Stop Believing” Pitbill – “Fireball” Bob Sinclar – “Rock this Party” Usher – “Yeah” Enjoy adding these beats to your life (if you haven’t done so...

Interview with a Past Client – Michelle

Interview with a Past Client – Michelle

February 13th, 2017 This weekend, we got to sit down with the beautiful Michelle, our past client who got married to her Prince Charming, Christopher, in August! Her wedding was very classy and simplistic, with candles and white flowers surrounding her and her guests, with a lounge area by the bar, a cupcake stand, and delicious food! Here is our interview with her! YPD: How did you and Christopher meet? Michelle: Christopher and I met 12 years ago while working at Terra Restaurant in Thornhill. He was completing his masters and I was finishing college. We stated dating a couple of years later. YPD: How did Christopher propose? Michelle: Chris had a conference in Long beach California, he convinced me to join him for the trip. We decided to stay for a few extra days after the conference. We rented a car and drove to Santa Barbara. It was a gorgeous day spent walking on the pier, wine tasting and dining at a fabulous restaurant. After dinner the sun was setting and we took a walk on the beach. We decided to head back but before we did Christopher proposed on the beach with the most beautiful sunset in the background. I had no idea he had planned this and was completely surprised! Not to mention a blubbering mess. YPD: What was your style / theme for your wedding? Why did you choose that? Michelle: Our theme for the wedding was all white. We are a modern couple who liked the clean, simple and chic look of all white. Our main decor was luminaries from Helix paired with minimal flowers floating in vases with a candle on top. We did a simple white backdrop behind the head table with gorgeous Philippe Starck mirrored chandeliers. We had a white monogrammed dance floor as well. Our wedding party wore black. My bridesmaids chose dresses that didn’t match each other and really showed their own personal style. We had our ceremony at the reception venue, The Warehouse. Everything was done in the evening because we really wanted to have a celebration and one heck of a party. We didn’t follow many typical wedding traditions. No cake cutting, no bouquet toss, no mother/father dance. We wanted a night to have fun with our guests and didn’t want all of that other stuff to get in the way. The traditions we left out didn’t speak to us and we were happy with our decisions. YPD: Why did you choose to have a coordinator for your wedding day? Michelle: I decided to plan the wedding by myself. I knew I wanted a day of planner who would help coordinate the details so I could just enjoy every second. I was told by almost everyone I came into contact with the importance of having someone who could assist on the wedding day. I got more then I bargained for with Jess. We met a month before the wedding where I handed over all of my vendor information. From that point on if I needed anything she was there for me. I am a control freak and I could tell Jess would be just as obsessed with the details as I was. From our first meeting I had full trust in her. YPD: Why did you decide...

Spring 2017 Trends

Spring 2017 Trends

February 6th, 2017 Every season has a different trend when it comes to, well, anything really, so why would weddings be any different? Spring 2017 has a lot of very classy looks, and are all possible on any type of budget. Here are our Top 5 Spring 2017 Trends that any bride can work into their wedding! Rustic: Barn weddings are definitely a must have this spring! Nature-inspired décor, like lanterns, branches, and twinkle lights, can be added to any venue to give that beautiful rustic look! We personally love large, long, rectangular tables that hold twenty of more guests with low centerpieces scattered across or large vases filled with branches and battery-operated candles filling the room. Vintage: This look has been popular for a while, and why wouldn’t it be? That old-world romance makes anyone truly feel love surrounding them! You can add personal touches, like family heirlooms, to your wedding, or use a variety of flowers in blush tones to add the romance. Our favourite? Bouquets of baby’s breath for that classic look. Drama: This over-the-top look will shock and awe your guests in such a way that no one will be able to duplicate it! This includes large, high, centerpieces with candles hanging off the branches, or a bouquet of flowers hanging from the center of the room large enough to cover most of your dance floor! I love the look of a white draped ceiling where the fabric bunches and accumulates in the center of the room. Pure Romance: Different from vintage weddings, this look is all about the simplicity of candles and crystal chandeliers. Having a ceremony where the aisle is lined with different heighted candles, or a large chandelier hanging above your head table, will add that touch of romance you love! Our favourite? White flowers surrounding you while you get married! To us, nothing is pure romance other than white floral arrangements! Whimsical: Creativity is key with this trend, as it involves colour and inspiration! Check out your favourite children’s movies to get ideas, like colourful balloons everywhere inspired by Up, or large, individual flowers for your bridal party inspired by Alice in Wonderland. There is no end when it comes to how you want your wedding to look, and that is why we love it! There you have it, YPDers! Contact us today to discuss how we can help you make your dream a...

Do’s & Don’t’s About Wedding Photography/Videography

Do’s & Don’t’s About Wedding Photography/Videography

January 30th, 2017 This morning, as I was driving to the office to meet with some clients, I started thinking about the do’s and don’ts of wedding planning but, more specifically, photographers and videographers! I always get asked by my clients who they should hire, or what they should ask, when they’re looking for a reputable company, and I always give them the same piece of advice: “Go for the company who has the best work but is NOT the cheapest.” Photography and videography should equal ten to fifteen percent of your budget, but a lot of clients tend to go for the cheapest, not realizing how much your photo and video really mean in the end. So, keeping that in mind, I thought today’s blog will be the “Do’s and Don’ts about Photographers and Videographers.” Do’s Don’ts DO hire a company that has both photographers AND videographers within the same company. DON’T hire two separate companies. Not only will they not necessarily know how to work together, you’ll also be spending more money. DO research on the company you hire. Check the reviews, contact past clients, and make an informed choice. DON’T go with the first company you meet with just because you like them. This is as much a business deal as it is your wedding day. DO hire a company you feel comfortable with. You’ll want someone you can laugh with to take the best photos of you. DON’T hire someone simply based on price. You won’t get the amazing photos you were hoping for. DO make sure you know exactly what’s in the package you’ve chosen. If you’re getting something you don’t want, see if you can switch it for something else or opt it out for less money. DON’T just take whatever they offer you. You’re paying for this service, so get the best package you can! DO contact a wedding planner at Your Perfect Day by Jess to recommend the BEST photographers and wedding planners in the GTA! DON’T hire a run of the mill company. You want, need, DESERVE the best, and we know where to get it! Hope to hear from you soon,...

Real Weddings – Candace & Trevor

Real Weddings – Candace & Trevor

January 23rd, 2017 I love writing these blogs; they are my absolute favourite because it allows my potential clients to see what kind of wedding they can have! Candace and Trevor’s wedding, though, was by far the most creative and fun wedding I’ve ever had the privilege to be a part of! Not only did it have a singing bride and photo booth, it took place in an art gallery and had a food truck! Trust me, you’ll love hearing about this wedding! It all started with a first look photoshoot where the bride and groom were able to truly capture that glimpse of their future together! Once done, photos with their bridal party, family and friends were taken so the night could be filled with fun, laughter, and love! From there, the couple drove to their venue, the Factory Lounge, an underrated art gallery in Vaughan with a clean, white lounge area, but a large, open spaced reception area with black walls and ceiling. Doesn’t sound too romantic, I know, but when a clever DIYer like Candace gets a hold of it, it turns into the perfect party! There were no typical seating arrangements; well, there weren’t even tables and chairs really. Instead, the couple opted for a cocktail-style reception with couches, and bar tops around the space. Candace created centerpieces filled with purple peacock feathers and jewels, which made the room pop and sparkle with the ceiling lights. A garage door allowed the venue to have caterers come in and out of the venue, so we were able to use Gourmet Craft & Catering’s food truck to feed the guests before the ceremony, allowing everyone to mingle and enjoy some time together before the real festivities began. Once Candace & Trevor arrived, the ceremony began, and this amazing couple were finally married! Immediately after the ceremony was over, the party started! The bar opened, the photo booth started, and the DJ began playing music to get the group dancing and having a true party, all the while the caterers continued to feed their guests delicious finger foods and snacks. It’s really the type of wedding for couples who want something different, and just want to party all night long! Here are the vendors we used to make this wedding great! Gourmet Craft & Catering Mane Society Lavish Limo Shots & Giggles DJ Adrn Boundless Weddings Gemini Photography Deelux Mobile Spa Contact us today so we can plan your wedding in the same cocktail-style reception as Candace &...
